History of project management

Project management has been around for a very long time, it's been found that project management dates all the way back to ancient Egypt, with the construction of King Khufu's Great Pyramid at Giza. "Egyptians appointed managers to oversee the completion of the pyramid, they were also responsible for planning and execution of the project." There wasn't much of a change between ancient Egypt times and the 18th century. “The basic principles of project management have always remained the same which includes managing resources, maintaining schedules, and coordinating different activities” (https://www.ims-web.com/blog/a-brief-history-of-project-management) Project management in modern times focuses more on schedule optimizations. The next big "movement" was around the 19th century, "Project management became more structure in construction, manufacturing, and transportation. Around the 1900's business leaders were faced with labor laws and regulations from the federal government." (https://www.ims-web.com/blog/a-brief-history-of-project-management) Henry Gantt and Frederick Taylor were very influential to the development of Project management, they were known as the "father of modern project management" and the "father of Scientific management". Around the 1950's, Critical Path Method (CPM) and Program Evaluation Review Technique (PERT) were created, "CPM was developed by DuPont Corporation and Remington Rand Corporation", and "PERT developed by the United States Navy as part of the Polaris missile submarine program" (https://www.activia.co.uk/project-management/history). "PERT analyzes individual tasks by asserting a minimum amount of time for completion, CPM factors in a project’s activities, how long the activities will take to complete, and the relationship between the activities and their end points." (https://www.ims-web.com/blog/a-brief-history-of-project-management). Finally, starting around 1980's when computers became more relevant it allowed project management to evolve even more. From the 2000s onward computers were an integral part of project management process, computers allowed more complex algorithms for optimizing project management. "Adding in computers to project management allowed more work to b completed at a faster time, with less errors. With the raise of computers, the raise of project management happened as well. Now there are web-based project management applications that have been created to help make decision to complete projects as quickly and error-free as possible."
